I have an old Victorian House that is nice but needs a lot of work. One such area is the bathroom that for some strange reason had no linen closet door.

Next to me is an antique shop and outside was this old door. Since my house has a ton of stained glass windows I thought I would use it as a closet door.

It took a lot of time and money. I had to fix rot at the bottom of the door with epoxy, replace 4 panes of stained glass, replace molding, paint, cut to size, add a knob and latch and install, in all about 12 hours of work.

And for all that? The deplorable truth of old houses; if you get all the details just right, it looks as if your work was original to the house. I still got a lot of molding trim to do in this bathroom, but the door really matches the decor well I think.

Overall I learned some new skills out of making this door: how to glaze windows and working with stained glass. I am thinking maybe after doing this I might make stained glass kitchen cabinets. Maybe too big of a project, but why not think big?

Thanks

You’ll have to come over sometime. It’s just Amy and I most of the time so you would never be keeping us. A nice place, but needs a lot of work, but interesting living on a river.
