My daughter and I have given most of the trees in our young Food Forest names and today my daughter sent me a pic of a pup that our banana plant ( Fingeroa) recently gave “ birth” to.
* Ok… technically I know that a banana plant is not a tree but rather a grass… and that bananas don’t have babies buuuut… it’s fun to have a good time with our forest family:)

Anyone else name their plants?

Congratulations!  I'll be super excited when I get my very first banana pup, too.

Not exactly... I'm on glacial till. Compacted with clay and rocks. Step 1 with tree planting is often to dig a big compost hole nearby so that water will infiltrate and spread underground and the tree roots will seek it out.

We have birds - ducks, chickens and geese. When Marguerite Goose died, she went into the active compost hole and the apple tree nearby is now called, "Marguerite's Courtland Apple".

When Bilbo Rooster died, he went in a compost hole several feet from where we planted another apple tree, which is now dedicated to him.

I suspect I will continue with that approach, but who knows.

Nice pup you've got there! Too cold here for bananas.
