i put some pawpaw seeds in an old compost pile about 9 months ago to cold stratify and sprout. these have been the most curious seeds i've encountered. i couldn't tell you how many times i've buried them and dug them back up, always wondering if there would be any sign of life or i killed them or are they too deep or what is going on.

today i was weeding one of the pots i relocated a sprouted seed into and just about yoinked the final 'blade of grass'. these pawpaw really do setup a root system before emerging whatsoever. anyway i'm amazed and i finally get it. i can let pawpaws take their time now.
