Laundry drain hose confusion

Hello,
I bought a new washing machine! Yay! I want to do the grey water thing with the 3 way valve. Everything makes sense except for one thing...
My washing machine booklet says that the drain hose must fit loosely into the drain pipe. So I wonder the proper way to attach it to the 1" brass 3 way valve. It actually sort of screws into the 1" three way valve, but not sure this will fly or be safe for the washing machine. Anyone give me some sound advice?
Peace and Love,
Steff

Based on what I am seeing the drain pipe needs to be rated for 17gpm and 2inches.

If you have a laundry sink, you could just send the water there too without any worrying about any overflow or damage

Thank you,
but that isn't quite the answer to my question.
I wonder if the "auto vent" of the laundry to landscape system allows a tight fitting for the laundry drain pipe into the 3 way valve?

Most washing machine drain pumps don't do well with back pressure. On top of that, if your drain hose looks like that one in the photo, it won't hold pressure at all (mine is cracked just from sitting there for a few years with a u-shaped carrier supporting it from below).

So, if you're going to attach the drain to a grey water system, you need to use a more durable hose for starters. Then you need to make sure that the system is as free-flowing as possible. I had a top-loader in Tucson that I plumbed into a 3-way valve that diverted the wash water to the drain and the rinse water to a 1" line leading to the fruit trees. That worked pretty well, mostly because the line ran just above grade until the outlet, so it was self emptying. I really did not want water pooling anywhere in the system.

Also, it's important that in a failure mode the valve does not shut from the pump's perspective. That will kill the pump quickly.

Ok Phil, thank you!
so if I get a more durable washing machine drain hose into the diverter valve with the auto vent my washing machine should be ok?

As long as it's not pumping uphill it should be fine.  Does the system look like this when you hook it up?

(excuse the lo-res graphics):

sort of,
The drain is vented, and then on the garden side it has an additional auto vent, but everything else is the same

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
