Here are a couple of my favorite
spoons. The big one is a 9 inch cooking spoon with a very cool knot in it that looks like a winking face. The small one is a pocket spoon that I still need to sand and oil… before I do, I thought y’all might like to see the lines. Sanding erases the tool marks, and many spoon carvers don’t sand for that reason. I’m using walnut oil to seal them. This gives a waterproof, satiny finish that really brings out the grain even in this ivory-like American holly. These are off to a special friend who cooks nearly as much as I do. Traditionally, a chef carries a small tasting spoon, so I think this combo would make a nice set. God willing, I’ll begin selling my spoons
online next week. I still have to figure out shipping. My goal is to offer heirloom quality, totally handmade woodenware at a reasonable price; that includes providing the best and most reliable shipping for the best price. So, I negotiate with Uncle Sam tomorrow… wish me well!
