I started a new pile, mostly browns and manure.  I've turned it once, but I can't find the information I had on composting anymore.  What's the timing of my turning the pile to ensure it stays aerobic?
It's been running at 160 degrees consistently.

Thanks!

Most people seems to say to turn it when it starts to cool, but I don't worry about that.  Turning mine weekly gives me the best results, so that's what I do.

I believe Geoff Lawton recommends first turn after 4 days then every 2 days after that.  Ive followed that and it works.  I often miss a turn when life gets in the way.  Compost is very forgiving so it does nt seem to matter.  He says that compost is supposed to be ready after 18 days, thats not been my experience.  Depends on your materials I suppose.  I use lots of wood chips.  I keep turning till it starts to cool down then I let it sit till its cold. Ideally a year .
