Can I Dump Raw Rice on My Compost Pile?

Or will that be a danger to wildlife? I don't want to kill any birds, and that's why I thought they discouraged throwing rice at weddings.

Maybe I should wet the pile immediately after dumping rice?

I'd open up a pocket in the compost, pour the rice in, and cover it. That should be enough discouragement before the rice starts to be broken down. Wetting it wouldn't hurt.
