The canes only last for two years.
The very 1st year that the canes/shoot grow out of the grounds it is called a primocane
after that 1st year cane overwinters and then leaves out the 2nd year it is now called a Floricane,
The floricane will not survive the next winter and leave out for a 3rd year.
Some plants are called Floricane or summer bearing. With these plants the 1st year canes aka primocane don't bear any fruits.
Other are called Everbearing or Fall bearing, with these plants they 1st year shoot bear in the fall, while the floricanes (now in their 2nd year and final year of life) will bear in the summer.
Iterations are fine, we don't have to be perfect
