I'm in the process of developing my off-grid woodland homestead in the beautiful Ottawa Valley. I work nearby, at an outfitters. My interests encompass things that allow me to live lightly off the land, be self-sufficient and avoid the need, as much as possible for public health and industrial food by growing my own and wild foraging of food and medicine. Currently, I'm hand-building a timber frame lodge with cordwood masonry and an earth roof usiing found and locally sourced materials. It's a labour of love. I enjoy passive recreation, hiking, biking, paddling, fishing, foraging, music, arts and crafts. Food production, cooking, preserving and eating are number one priorities. My future plans focus on setting an example for others to learn from, when it comes to living simply and being connected to the earth as well as building without a mortgage, a low-maintenance, low-cost lifestyle that is fulfilling in every way. I'd like to share this experience with a like-minded friend or friends. Once the lodge is complete, the intention is to install various artists cabins and a sauna, eventually developing my network of people to trade with and develop a community currency or become part of one that is in the works so we can thrive without the heavy hand of big brother. My focus is to build community, not to make profit, but just to have enough (which, is actually very little). I'm a two hour drive from the city of Ottawa. Four hours from Montreal and 20 km from the nearest store.

Hi Kelly.
60 in the Southeast.
Sounds very appealing.
My background is in alternative healing, yoga, literary pursuits.
Thinking seriously of taking the plunge (into the permie universe).
Regards.
Daniel

Hi Daniel, sounds like you're on a good path. I certainly don't regret taking the permieroute.

Do you mind if I ask, you're from the southeast of where?

Hi. I'm originally from the upper Midwest in the US, but have been living in the Southeastern US for a number of years.
