Hi, I'm currently living in Fairbanks, AK and working in tech support.

My grandparents homesteaded in Southcentral AK in the early '60s. They did this under the Homestead Act of 1862, so they had to stake out their land and "prove up" on it by clearing a portion for agricultural use, building a house and living there for a few years.

I'm looking to get my student loans paid off quick and to attempt to start my own homestead while I'm still relatively young.

I have some experience in homesteading/off grid living, gardening and raising animals. I'm pretty new to this permaculture stuff so I'm hoping to learn a lot by lurking around these forums.

That's great that you are focused on this at a young age. I wish I had followed up on permaculture 15 years ago, but I killed the message b/c of the messenger.
Sounds like you have some things to add to these forums with your experiences.
Welcome, permies is a great place to learn I have found.

Howdy Tyler, welcome to permies, I wish my folks would have stayed on the homestead. But no they had to be the only ones who moved to the big city.
