Sunchoke vs Tree of Heaven

I have the dreaded Tree of Heaven trying to invade my hugelkultur and permaculture area. If I cut the trees of heaven to the ground and plant sunchokes will they eventually take over? Trying to stay away from strong (or any) herbicide.

Did you use tree of heaven for the wood in the hugelbed? Or are they seedlings from another source tree?

If you used wood that was fresh it most likely rooted, it will be tuff to kill them. Next time dry the wood before using it, I've used tons of tree of heaven in hugel beds but I let it dry so there was no chance of rooting. I would plant your sunchokes and use the sprouts from the tree as chop and drop mulch.

Thank you Mr Lowery. I did use a small amount of the wood in two of my beds. The threat so far has been from a vacant lot next to mine. Just hope my initial mistake of using fresh wood in my beds doesn't ruin the hard work.

If they are just seedlings weeding them when young is very easy.
