I don't know if this has been done before, but it's the first time I've seen it.
Dude found an old hydraulic log splitter and mounted it to the arm of his excavator.
Viola! No more picking up logs, just split 'em where they lie!

My experience with hydraulic splitters taught me that there is limited efficiency unless there are at least 2 people involved. One operating the splitter and one bringing logs to/hauling split wood away. For full efficiency, it needs 3 people. The guy in your video has figured out a way to use one machine to replace three people. Pretty cool.
