Hello everyone,

I live in Volcano Village on Big Island Hawaii.  It’s a rainforest area.  I dug up a persimmon tree that was growing in the forest and transplanted it in a area that gets about 4 - 6 hrs of direct sunlight per day.  It’s was growing in the forest for about 10 years before I dug it up, growing tall and skinny.  It’s been in its new location for about 5 years.   It’s growing full and thick now.  Wondering if anyone thinks it has a chance of producing fruit at all or if it’s been in the forest for too long.

One thing I noticed is it drops its leaves about a month later than the other trees in my area.

I think it’s the fuyu variety because that’s what is growing on my neighbor’s property.

There are several other properties in the immediate area with persimmon trees producing lots of fruit yearly.

If it's the child of a Fuyu, it might be a male tree that won't produce fruit. You can tell the sex of a persimmon tree by the flowers.

Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn't give up on that tree.

What kind of nutrients are you giving the tree?

Compost tea would be great. Pee would be good, too.

Here are a couple of threads that might help you or others:
