Just a minor question, ... How is this considered an "Indian Proverb"? And I guess, what's an Indian? And on which or what continent, did the shepherd eat the sheep?

A good friend of mine told me this was an “Old Indian proverb”. He is one quarter Cherokee. I guess he would know. He said it was handed down from his father, his grandfather, his great grandfather, as his people observed the white man, shepherds/sheep herders. What is an Indian? I guess I can give you my friend’s number and you can ask him yourself or maybe just Google it! Well we live here in Kansas. Don’t all shepherds eat their sheep? I have never heard of a vegetarian shepherd.
