I give this chipper 7 out of 10 acorns.

The YardMax 2-in-1 3 in. Dia 212cc Gas Chipper Shredder is a ball of chaos trapped in the confines of a metal contraption wanting one thing and one thing only... STICKS. It does a great job creating wood chips when you take your time to do some preparation. It features an open top chute as well as a side chute meant for branches. When you put the branches in the branch specific chute, it makes small square chip smoothly and with little effort from the motor. When you put a branch in through the top which is meant moreso leaves all hell breaks loose. If it is green wood, it will chew it up. If it is dried wood of around an inch big, it is like a grenade going off. It makes it into chips, but it will fire shards straight up if you are not careful!

To run the most efficiently, you want to take all of your wood and make sure you have trimmed it so that it is mostly a straight segment. Crooks that are too big from broken branches can slow you down. Having a lot of little branches coming off can slow you down. I prep all my wood into piles where I am going to chip and then roll the chipper over. It has a heavy pull start but it starts quickly. I find the machine is a little light so be sure to support it with your foot when you pull or you might pull the whole thing over.

I am pleased with my purchase, realize it is inherently not very safe, and would recommend it to homeowners who keep safety at the front of their mind.
