My husband and I are looking to eventually (in probably 10 years or less) build a retirement home in either WV (our first choice) or NC. I'm the one charged with doing all the research for right now. There is a possibility that our oldest daughter may be coming with us, but she's only 19, so we're not counting on it. Since I'm the one doing the most research right now, I'm looking into more environmentally friendly approaches. The catch is that for my husband to agree, they also need to be cost friendly. I've been looking at different options, particularly earthbag, and I've even found a hexagonal plan on greendreamhomes.com that, with some alterations, will be perfect for us.

The problem is that my husband is unable to do any construction work because of a spinal condition, and I'm in a similar boat, having been disabled in a car accident in my early thirties. Does anyone know of any builders in the WV or NC area that would be willing to build an earthbag home? He prefers the mountains of WV, because there will probably be snow every winter, but there are mountains in NC, as well, so that's our second choice.

If we don't do the shopping, we won't have anything for dinner. And I've invited this tiny ad:
