I know this is the home of tech skeptics, and I respect that. But this one has me interested.

http://sheerwind.com/

It brings the mechanics down to the ground level. No big props moving at high speed through the air. In theory, you could put chicken wire over the openings and reduce bird kills to nearly zero.

The claims of increased output are a bit unbelievable to me, but even if it just gets the same output, I think it is a better design than your standard windmill.

Opinions?

I think the % is a red herring
Its all about how much energy is produced for your money
If you buy a 12Kw turbine for x or a more efficient shearwater design 6Kw for x are you any better off?

Yeah I have been looking at them also. I am going to wait and see how the first production units work then make a decision. It's one thing to make a press release and it's another to have your production producted tested in the field by customers.
