Not having read the book.. How does one go about housing with family and kids. I am kinda stuck where I have a very affordable mortgage, "good" job, enough land to do what I want, But I realy am not where (location wise) where I want to be.

Personally believe I have enough to"pickup and move" a better place and a simpler lifestyle without all the gadgets, but how do you convince the rest of the family including wife and teens that this a a good idea and life style.

"Who loves me follows me"!
Just tell what you want to do and prepare it seriously. The planning in itself takes enough time.
then just answer in a personal way the questions that will arise.
It will then also help you to be clear.
If you are afraid they will not come, then work on your fears.
What are they?

Turns out, that's the topic of my NEXT book: that is, how can a family live sustainably, ethically, frugally. Watch for it in 2016
