What are some of the reasons to have a trainer?
Is it the motivation?
Thanks!
We have a trainer because she's free and family. What we get out of it is not having to worry about making a plan for training, and we don't have to put much effort into learning everything there is to know about how to get ready for a marathon. Kerrianne is a very experienced marathon and triathalon runner, so her input is very valuable to us. We have Garmin watches that automatically send our runs to her, she runs it through her brain and spits out advice for us. If we miss a workout, she adjusts our workouts for the next week. I could text her right now and ask her how long she thinks it would take for me to finish the marathon in October, and she'd have a number for me. If I had a specific time goal, she'd tell me if it were realistic and how to do it if it is. Invaluable. People pay her to do this work for them, and people have completed herculean tasks with her help. Much better than an app.
Also, motivation helps. I finish a run feeling proud of myself and think "Kerrianne is going to be proud of me!" Intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. When I don't run for a week, she texts me. That combined with runs being harder when I miss my short runs motivates me to not miss workouts.
