Hi! I bought 10 acres in Crook County Oregon thinking I was buying some kind of desert land. When it rained every week my first spring, I started to wonder wtf a "high desert" was. Its nothing, nine types of deserts & "high" is not one. High desert is a made-up term used in Central Oregon as a marketing ploy to sell the area as a warm retreat from the Willamette Valley. The problem is, the ignorance is turning steppe into a real desert. I documented this on my YT

Welcome to Permies Central Oregon is anything but a warm retreat.  I live just south of Bend.  Having lived here for many years one thing you are going to find, is not one winter/spring is the same. It's a challenging environment.
