Hi folks.  I'm struggling with quack grass that is trying to take over my raspberry patch and my current bushes.  Anyone have a good method for preventing the quack grass for choking out the berries?

Quackgrass never sleeps.

Except it does, sort of, if you have a winter season.

You'll notice that in the summer it's nearly impossible to dig/pull out a long rhizome without breaking it. And that means it just keeps on growing.

But very early in spring, all the tiny rootlets that act as anchor hairs have died off. You can get in there with various digging implements (my favourite is a 15" flat prybar, great garden tool) and tease out the entire rhizome right out to its growing tip. Woo!

Thanks for the tip.  Likely too late for this year, but I will keep it in mind for next year.  Get out there early and clean it up.
