I like the idea of having ducks roaming my garden eating pests especially Colorado potato beetles. But I thought that the bugs are either toxic or bitter because they live off of a nightshade.

In my experience ducks will eat anything that hops, crawls, slithers, or flies in front of them if it´s small enough. They don´t have a lot of taste buds so they probably wouldn´t realize if the potato bugs have a bitter taste- but they will probably avoid the nightshade plants altogether. They seem to be smart enough to know what plants are toxic, mine won´t go near the daffodils but they do eat my marigolds (and the bugs on them).
