Hi everyone

We've just started to see evidence of the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid on one of our seen Eastern Hemlock trees here in Western PA.  I was expecting it, it has been spotted in so many other places in the region.  I called our State Extension Office, and they proceeded to share with me the three different insecticides they use.  One apparently involves digging holes all near the roots and then pouring in a healthy dose of Bayer Tree and Shrub pesticide.  They insist there are no other possible treatments.  Uh, no thank you, I will not be poisoning the ground and likely poisoning our spring and water source...our 5 acres will stay pesticide free!

I'm curious about what others have done to help address Hemlock Wooly Adelgid--we want to save these trees if we can.  Are there any specifically nature-focused or organic methods?

I've read a bit about a possible beetle you can introduce, but I'm worried about the impact of yet another species on the ecosystem.

Thanks all!
Dana

I am not familiar with Hemlock Wooly Adelgid though since they recommended insecticide  I would suggest using insecticide soap.

My house was sitting on top of a giant ant hill which I eliminated by just pouring my used dish water onto where I saw evidence of the ants.

I would say that is worth giving insecticide soap a try at least. I have never used insecticide soap because regular soap works for me.
