Over the years I have been given and or called many names, some given in anger (most of them), others given from pure meanness, and still others with a smile.
This is a story of one of the smiley ones.
This happened at the hospital, in the cath lab, awaiting yet another stent procedure (2nd one maybe), answering the anesthetist's questions when I told her of my many years of being sober and said that she may want to ease off a little on the happy juice, as the strongest OTC in my house was baby aspirin. As she walked into my field of vision, with a syringe in hand and then told everyone, with smiling eyes, "we have a cheap date on the table, folks", followed by several laughs. She leaned over and brushed some hair out of my eyes and said "I'm the same way, don't worry about a thing, I'll be here when you wake, now it's bye-bye time" Inserting said syringe into my IV line, it was like that song,"out goes the lights". I must say that it was quicker and much less painful than the long neck Bud bottle to my eyebrow I took during a bar fight, many years ago.
So I now use the name "cheap date" from time to time.
Peace
