Our old couch had a tear that kept getting larger and larger. We still want to get a few more years out of the couch, but instead of just putting a patch on it, my wife used the pocket from a discarded pair of jeans. Now we have a handy pocket for our remote! Highly recommend - now we are thinking about adding more pockets just for the convenience...

My son was getting the back of his neck burned, especially if he was working at replacing roofs.

I offered to add a strip of fabric down the back of his hat to protect him from the sun a bit. The best bit of fabric we had for the job was rescued from a pair of his work trousers that he'd managed to nearly totally destroy and we decided to use the bit with the pocket, just in case it came in useful to hold bits and bobs while he was stuck up on the roof.

He loves it, it goes with his crazy patched-up t-shirts that I also fix up for him, it keeps his workmates amused, but to be honest he very rarely uses it as an actual pocket.
