Hello Permies,

I have a sweet oldish (8+yrs) jersey that was suffering from the heat wave that recently ran rampant through the country. I put sprinklers under a big tree so that her and the others could stay cool during the worst of the heat, but my wife told me she saw the jersey in question drinking from the ground water one day early on when the trough was in full sun and probably warm.

fast forward 2 weeks and the jersey had lost a ton of weight very quickly. We thought the heat was beating her up because she is very susceptible to being hot, but when she wasn't recovering we brought our local vet out and explained the above and he blood tested for Johnes and salmonella (Samonella?), anyway it was neither of those two and he also had us dowsing her with electrolytes and sending anti-diarrhea pills down her throat for four days. In the past two weeks she has been putting on a bunch of weight again, looking more lively, etc, but we can't beat the mastitis that is showing in all four quarters according to the SCC testing we do.

I understand that she has been through a whole lot and it could just be her body fighting off lingering disease from the close call we had, but if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear it.

Things I missed that my wife helped remind me about:
Calved in February
Milk was souring/sour right before vet visit
tried "Synergy" brand yellow jacket in combo with EX-CELL 7000 to no result

Thank you all!

We are doing just once a day right now, but I am seeing some people advising twice a day and removing grain.

We don't grain feed; however we do offer Alfalfa when feeding along with sunflower seeds.
