I am pretty poor moneywise. I grow a lot of my food and have very little costs. But when half of the windows in my henhouse broke, I was devastated..
It's an 80 years old old sauna. Windows from the time after the war when materials were tight.
This summer, four of the eight windows broke. No standard size whatsoever.
The henhouse is not heated and chickens live there in temps falling to -20°F at worst.
A friend sourced some triple-ply thermal glass windows free of charge from a construction site. They weighed a ton and came with plastic enclosures.
We managed to tease out the window panes and now the henhouse is fantastic!!
The windows face south and west. In the winter when there are no leaves in the trees and the sun shines really low (we are on the Arctic circle), the henhouse was really bright! That matters when the day is only six hours long.
