Cool spot this evening - two glow worms!!

I just came in from the garden, after some late weeding.

Walking back to the house we saw two really bright glow worms in the grass. I have NEVER seen glow worms in the UK before, so these must be pretty rare.

Any one know about glow worms? Habitat, life cycle, etc...? I don't know why we suddenly have these glow worms here, but it is pretty exciting.

And tonights entertainment was a Little Owl and a Barn Owl at fairly close quarters.

I have never seen a glow worm...how cool...grew up with the song and never thought much about it being a real worm. Country entertainment is wonderful...kittens playing...the sounds of crickets and spring peepers and coyotes...
we spent an evening once throwing tiny things at a spider web and watching the spider scurry over and wrap the 'catch' (maybe that was a mean thing to do???...)...watching fireflies..and kids so love those things if given the opportunity.

my husband says he thinks glow worms are larvae of a type of rove beetles.

Judith - i think it is a kind of beetle. They were crawling though the grass. The light was suprisingly bright!

How lovely! I have never seen a glow worm either.

I hope I see them where I live. I know it has been warm just recently in the UK. I am in lancashire, and it's been lovely this last few weeks.

I do wonder how they glow, maybe they are in love!

I wonder what they eat too.
