I'm not ashamed to say I'm addicted to gardening. If I'm not in my garden, I'm building something for it, reading about it, or watching videos about it. I have my favorite YouTubers, and David the Good would be one.
I bought three bare-root peach trees last weekend. I told my son if I didn't do anything else this weekend I was going to plant those trees.
I woke up this morning not feeling great, and my right knee has been hurting all week. I didn't say anything, who wants to listen to a complainer? Not knowing my son went out and dug the holes for me. Sooo... I drug myself out and planted the trees. I planted them in a triangle. I covered the ground with cardboard between the trees. I was dreading getting the wood chips. The dozens of trips, and digging were probably going to further aggravate my knee. Then I remembered the island David the Good makes around his trees.
Late winter 2023 we had to do a major prune of our giant walnut tree. The large pieces have been slowly cut up for firewood. My son built a tank wood burner and burned lots of the branches ( which gave me a lot of charcoal that is in the compost turning into bio char) that has left places with lots of small chunks of branches, leaves and soil. Thinking about the way David makes his islands I thought these piles of debris will work perfectly. It clears the space using something that isn't useful in any other way. I will still top the island with wood chips to give it a nicer tidier look, but it won't be nearly as many trips. A total win.
