Greetings! We are looking to add a 60x60 foot building to our 13 acre property. The building will include a workshop, a produce washing and storage area, a kitchen for processing and canning food, and a community gathering area. We are spiraling between two building location placements and wondering if this permaculture forum may be able to provide some feedback for us to consider.

Looking at the attached map you will see Option 1 and Option 2.

Option 1 provides an easier access for community involvement without impacting the privacy of the farm.
Option 2 provides the benefit of being more central and potentially provide more ease of access to the farm.

If you have any thoughts on these two locations that you feel like sharing, please let us know.
Thank you so much for your support with this process!

Option 1, being closer to the public road will have less distance for big road transport vehicles to travel.
I believe keeping the bigger vehicles away from farm activity is a bonus.

Wind/weather break, possible solar shading, view obstruction. If you are going to put a 'shop' down and add a lot of runoff water besides, maybe on top of your well (depending how deep) could affect your decision.

Welcome to Permies!

I would place the building the furthest from my house. Less interruptions of your tasks during those events when you have your own unrelated chores to get done.

So it takes a day for light to pass through this glass? So this was yesterday's tiny ad?
