So if at some point in history, due to circumstances outside my control, I loose the space for my shelves and am unable to complete my life's work. I would prefer the better rarer more out of print books in my collection went to somebody with a digital scanner and lots of free time.

I'll bet some of those books are copyrighted.

What are some of your favorite titles/authors in the library? I am an avid book collector myself, always looking to improve the library selection.
