Flourescents, not sure where to post this

I came across some T8 fluorescent housings with the lights for free this morning and was wondering if this could help with Winter here and all. Perhaps for growing indoors?

I've used them for growing indoors but I bought the tubes that are made for growing plants. Regular fluorescent lights aren't the correct light frequency.

Thanks Glenn, I'm thinking then to use for barn lighting, maybe swap some with grow bulbs and donate the rest...
Could you recommend a good bulb to use for growing? Can they grow a whole veggie plant or is it only used for transplanting?

True "Grow lights" are full spectrum - like the sun. They are also very expensive.
I have had people tell me that if you mix a cool white with a warm white bulb in one fixture, you are getting close to the full spectrum. It will never equal the sun, but neither does the 'full spectrum' bulb. They are good for starting seedlings in the spring, but will never beat the sun for full term growth. They will also help plants that you need to bring indoors for the winter.

Just as Wonder Bread will never be bread, a light bulb will never be the sun.
