Hi everybody, I am based in Northeast Florida (for now) and this past month of May I had the chance in visiting a homestead in Northern Colombia in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta mountains. I first got connected with the owner Brian from the site ic.org when we first began having our conversations. Brian is the sole owner of his homestead where he is living, he has 120 acres of land and seeks in establishing an eco village in respects to the environment. It is a very mountainous yet gorgeous place.

My trip here was a short one as I've only traveled a week due to my 9-5. I only spent 3 days at the farm as it takes about 2-3 days to get there. I flew into Barranquilla, then a 2 hour bur ride to the city of Santa Marta, next day driving up the mountain to the last settlement past the tourist town of Minca, then next day a 3-4 hour horseback, mule ride traversing valleys, slopes and hills. It is all very worth the adventure. Despite the remoteness of the homestead it is all for a strategic purpose. It is very safe there, more safer than being in the cities.

I do intend on coming back to the place to stay months at a time, potentially begin building myself my own home as a resident. Brian does want to get internet hooked up eventually there's just so much to invest and work on. This is my very first post on Permies. I got recommended to it from Brian.

If anyone is wanting to learn more, interested whether experienced or not, YOU ARE invited! Please direct message me for more. Ask me any and as much questions you have. I want to help out Brian so i am doing him a favor, tho really it is a valorous favor to ourselves all of us together. We aspire self autonomy, being responsible on our part.

Please get in reach with me +1 (904) 608 3394

Welcome to permies!  That does sound like quite the adventure, I hope you get to return to the perspective ecovillage soon and can indeed live there in future.

Sounds like an incredible journey and a meaningful vision — thanks for sharing! The remoteness, beauty, and purpose behind the homestead in the Sierra Nevada are truly inspiring. Wishing you and Brian the best in building something sustainable and community-driven. Looking forward to updates as things grow!

We should throw him a surprise party. It will cheer him up. We can use this tiny ad:
