This is the very first chick that I've hatched. When I went out to check on them today I found it. I let the hen sit on the eggs naturally and it looks like she started to peck the chicks head, I'm assuming because of the holes. It has 2 small holes on its back side close to its rectum. There was a small piece of Colin sticking out of one of the holes. I was able to use tweezers and put it back inside of the body. The other hole appears to get larger and smaller when the chick inhales and exhales. I really want to try and keep this little guy alive! Can anyone offer any advice on what I might be able to do going forward?
thank you for your time and assistance!!

In the animal kingdom, mothers often 'extinguish' their young that would be unable to thrive in a real world.
If you isolate it from its mother, it might survive for a while.
If it is ever reintroduced into a flock, the other birds will probably do what mom wanted to do.
In flock mentality, a weakling is looked upon as a threat to the flock's survival. That's nature.
the thing that gets larger and smaller is the vent, the other sounds like it is the umbilical cord, leave this alone, i wouldnt interfere, the chicken might have been cleaning the chick, if she is going to kill it i would let her, it seems harsh but its nature. remember a hen is better at being a hen than you are.
