hi All!

New to this site but it was recommended to me by a fellow permie friend.

My partner and I have a 5 acre fiber farm ~ animal sanctuary in the Columbia River gorge, in Lyle WA on beautiful land with a mix of Fir trees, a large open pine oak savannah meadow, a wonderful community garden and a year round creek down below with a swimming hole.  We're 40 minutes from hood river, OR and 30 minutes to white salmon, WA.

We currently have 5 alpacas (and expecting an alpaca baby here on the farm soon), as well as ducks, dogs and cats.  We love tending the animals and love how their presence seems to connect everything on the land ~ their manure has made the most stellar compost for our thriving garden, they work the soil but are also light on the land as they roam about, and their fiber has sparked a new passion and path in the fiber arts, as I have begun spinning their wool and weaving.  We've had renters here in the past who share a love of fiber crafts and at times have held weekly craft circles.  Living side by side with the animals has brought so much joy, and also such a sense of sacredness.

We have 3 units total on the land - our log cabin home, a small cottage, as well as our tiny house.  A friend will be moving into the cottage here next month, and our tiny house is now available for rent.  We are ideally looking for someone who has a real interest in this lifestyle (rural, tho on grid, and learning to live on the land in a more connected way), and is also keen to balance independence with some degree of community living.  We personally love that all of the units here are independent, so we can all follow our own natural flows and lives, but we are also looking for someone with a desire to lean in to life and projects together on the land, and who could help with animal care when we go away, has an interest in the garden, community meals, etc and who may want to contribute your own projects or ideas of your own.

The tiny house is available now.  Feel free to message me if this sounds like something you'd be interested in and share more about your own background and experiences too.  Happy to send photos and connect further.

Warmly,
Yaeli

Welcome to permies Yaeli, so glad your friend recommended it to you.  I hope you find the right person(s) to rent the tinyhouse and enjoy the farm and animals with you.

Hi Yaeli,

I responded to your post on Homesteads looking for helpers. Im 56, have extensive experience with a variety of animals (dogs, cats, horses, goats, chickens, llamas), people ( different gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, religious and political affiliations), my focus in college was communication (gender, cultural, generational). Kids and animals gravitate towards me. I lived in the Portland area for 10 years, in a tiny house for 8 years, and in a "dry cabin" for 1 year (recently). I have 1 cat, a regular fixed income and local (to you) references.
Feel free to contact me directly 503-348-5933.
Shannon
