Hi All,
I'm developing 20 acres on the WA side of the Columbia River Gorge about 30 minutes from Hood River. Land is in a hig prairie zone. Mostly oak forest with some ponderosa and little openings of prairie. It's a fairly private plot at the end of a dead end road. I have a little seasonal
creek, a well, and am running in power that will be offset with solar in summer.
This is my second land development project and like the last I'm hoping to do this with landmates. I have experience living on rural plots with others and in my opinion it's the way to do it and reduces stress on everyone. My plan is to set it up as a rental situation with the option but not the requirement for work trade so everyone feels sovereign in their living situation on the land.
Down the line I will have structures for rent but at the current moment I am building my own and looking for someone with a tiny home or the desire to purchase one who wants to rent space here. Power will be in in the next two weeks so that will be available, and water will also be available (possibly via IBC tote with fills from the well depending on location.)
Looking for a mature human or couple or even a family who wants to live a healthy slow living style life in partnership with others. Ideally looking for someone who is not in a transient space in life and who wants to be around for a while if the fit is good. I'm open to someone who wants to have livestock or other permaculture projects of their own. Someone who loves to garden would be dreamy. I am great at all the initial heavy lifting of gardening (and in general love working hard on the land) but get a little antsy holding a watering hose.
I have a large fenced off garden area going in now and will be putting up some compost systems (but omg if you have ideas on the best compost method I’d so welcome that, my brain hurts trying to figure this out, admittedly I’m trying to figure a lot of things out simultaneously 😆 - leaning towards a chicken involved system atm.) I have a very rudimentary shower tent that will be better some day but no guarantees on when that may happen as I need to get my own tiny house done. I’m putting in some sort of toilet system, prob an incinerator style thing because dealing with human waste is not really my jam (have done it, don’t love it.)
There are currently 15 young laying hens here and that will likely expand in the future. I’m picking up an LGD rescue this weekend (Anatolian - not an aggressive rescue situation.) I want to plant a whole bunch of fruit and nut trees and put in a root cellar in the next 2 years. I am really open to fun permaculture projects (growing mushrooms, dairy craft, hugel culture, wood gassifiers, you name it) and love hearing about what excites others.
Some things to know, I’m probably somewhere on the libertarian side of the spectrum ideologically speaking and it’s important to me to have people around who aren’t pushy with their political and other ideological beliefs. I seek to honor peoples personal choices and not force others to comply with mine.
I am a quantum biology nerd and would like to make this a space where people can choose to opt out of Wi-Fi and potentially disruptive lighting so I will provide hard lined high speed internet for my renter and would ask that we use minimal exterior lighting during dark hours. Also while I am on the subject of personal choices, I do eat meat and plan to someday do some animal processing (and maybe hide tanning) on the land. It wont be constant or large scale but it feels worth noting as someone with a strong anti meat stance wouldn’t be a great fit.
I’d love someone who wants to be here in the winter as I’m likely to want to travel a bit during the cold season. Looking for some one(s?) who is reliable and grounded enough to hold down the fort. Work trade or payment would be arranged and mutually agreed upon for this.
I’m sure I could drone on a lot more but this is a start. DM me if you’re interested. Definitely want to get to know each other slowly. I’m not into doing anything fast and am in no rush to find someone. I’m happy to provide references to people who I’ve shared land with in the past and would ask for the same. Also happy to share photos and videos of the land.
Looking forward to connecting with you
Emily
