Hello fellow vegans, I have been a vegan for at least 35 years and 1/3 of that time 100% raw. We have a local potluck once a month and they have a book and video lending library there. After watching "Earthlings I have gotten rid of all leather items except for my boots. Where can I get the same quality vegan boots as the Danner backpacking boots I now have? They must be able to handle rugged all year and all weather use. thanks Alan

My guess would be a hemp upper with a natural cork and rubber sole.

Alan, you have expanded my world tonight! I had no idea, not being a vegan myself. I did a google search for vegan boots and got a lot of hits. Here is one example.

Just be careful when shopping. Ironically; I've discovered many vegan clothing uses man-made synthetics, which I would consider WAY worse than using sustainably raised animal products.

Hello folks! First post here on Permies, and I was excited to see the vegan subsection on here.

http://thevegetariansite.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=Garmont+Vegan+Special+Edition+(men%27s)&Category_Code=hikersm

These boots are great. I've been vegan for quite awhile and have always been in search of a strongly made boot. I work in construction and these hold up. Originally designed as a combat boot, they breath and are comfortable. Even have a vibram sole. Garmont also makes(or at least used to) a hiking boot with a very similar design and less military looking.
The one I linked is made in both black and tan. Be careful if you look for these boots elsewhere. For years it seemed like they were a vegan boot and then the tags stopped saying synthetic leather, so this site has them special ordered from Garmont. They are not cheap, but last a lot longer than any other boot I've tried.

Hope this helps!

My cat hates you. She hates this tiny ad too:
