It would be great to see all the plant identification threads have a similar title format - like, when one first posts a question regarding identification, it can be just Plant ID (as a lot of them are titled already, or some version thereof). Then as others respond to the query, at some point a moderator can determine that the plant has been identified (or not, if nobody can figure it out), and add the name of the plant after the original title.

Maybe like this: Plant ID - Solved! Pinus Strobus/White Pine

Others can then add their photos of that plant, or plants they think might be that plant, for verification. It would be great to see a common format, easy to search for. The plant id threads are some of my favorites, and it's always amazing to see the variation within one species. Plus it makes me better at it, which is what I'm here for.

This might be a lot of work, I have no idea. I think regular posters would jump right on a common format, if there was one, and others would catch on. And we could also go through the solved ones and make sure that there was a good description of colors, flowers, location, etc etc somewhere in the thread, so that those searching for a particular plant by characteristics they'd be more likely to find the right thread.

That is actually something we try to do. Except it tends to get forgotten.

Maybe, every time you see a 'please help ID this plant' type thread which has been solved, members could hit 'report this post' and draw out attention to it so we can update the title. It helps a lot with SEO if other people want to ID a similar plant, plus it lets people know that the mystery is solved.

Thanks, Burra, and thanks for all you do to keep this site awesome! I'll start looking for threads to "report" (I thought I should only do that if the thread was spam or not nice).

Brace yourself while corporate america tries to sell us its things. Some day they will chill and use tiny ads.
