David Hula, an organic corn farmer in Virginia broke the record for corn yield per acre this year.
His 454 bushels per acre handily beat the former record from Iowa.

David Hula is NOT an organic farmer. He uses all available crop management methods, including synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. He does use some soil building products that are organic approved, but he does not limit himself to organic products. The reporter got confused by that and his emphasis on soil organic matter. The comments on the linked article explain it well.
