It's really lovely to start the morning with a fun meeting and then a zoom call with an excellent person. We have found our cook for summer events! She is awesome. I'm very excited to meet her this summer.
After a brief office session, I gathered supplies for the final day of Shanndelier reno. I met Logan, Chris, and Fred out there to finish our final tasks. Logan did some grade A cobbing on the outside; Chris and Fred scrubbed the stovepipe clean of old tape adhesive and creosote; I scrubbed the floors and tried to make it Rustic (capital R). Then we reassembled the stovepipe (replacing two galvanized sections with black sections) and lit the fire and... amazing. It's an incredible improvement from before. Not perfect but way better. We shimmied on back to base camp for lunch, I got to chat some more with Logan which was superb because we haven't gotten to work together much yet.
I'm working on finding a better egg source from some locals and I think I have a bite in the next town over, which is exciting. Also some CSA shares for the community while we get our food systems better established (this is the year baby). So I worked on that at lunch and then suddenly it was time for the afternoon meeting, which was a fun one. Everyone seemed to be in a happy mood today. But today is Clayton's last day with us (for now) which feels devastating.
I gathered the final supplies for the Shanndelier and headed out there solo to make it look like home. And it does, it is very sweet. I'm excited to greet our new Seppers tomorrow and I hope they enjoy it in there.
I got home a few minutes late from work, but it was perfect timing, because Dez was just coming outside to go for a walk up to the Volcano. And I had never walked up there! And he invited me to go with. Zeke followed us up and of course it was a radiant experience; today was warm and sunny, but this evening was cool and breezy, and the view from the top was wide and open and majestic. Time with Dez is always really well spent. We rolled back into Taco Tuesday and had some delicious burrito tacos but mine were way too spicy and then I got spice in my eye. Community business was real nice and I got to give some shouts to the people that helped me make the Shanndelier happen (nearly everyone). We covered some good topics and laughed a lot.
And then Paul theatre involved the second episode of Firefly, which I am seeing for the very first time (Clayton too), and everyone else already loves deeply. The second episode was really funny so I enjoyed it immensely.
Okay! Time to draw some final runes with Clayton. We'll miss you so dearly sweet friend. Until next time. With love.
