Well I guess some thanks are in order to you folks. Was able to test burn J tube last night. Appeared to work perfect http://s1287.photobucket.com/user/jjsyl/library/J%20tube%20burn?sort=3&page=1

Joe-I suppose that measurements of your J-tube would clarify, but looking at your pics I'd say your riser needs to be taller.

This winter has hurt me so bad cash wise I am rushing to build something fast to start saving me money soon. So I am starting with what I had. I had a 13 gallon air compressor tank that is only 29 inches so my riser is as tall as it can be and still leave 2 inches at top. I heated my home last year with a 23,000 btu kerosene heater and a well placed fan. But Kero isnt much cheaper and is messy so I quit.. So I think that I can easily heat it with this rocket heater Im building. My design has no mass either but instead will have a radiator system of 6 in. stove pipe exposed to the air to scavenge the exhaust heat into home and cool the exhaust enough to exit through a hole in a piece of plywood placed in open window. May sound a little weird but Im fairly confident it will work and be the fastest and cheapest. Also will still use well placed fan. My rocket heater and stove pipe assembly will also be mounted to a cart like frame with removable wheels to make it easily removable or movable to another room. I know its all probably a little weird to you guys but Im building it the way I want it.

If you haven't seen this you should check it out. It's Zero Fossil Fuels rocket heater and is almost exactly like yours.
Zero's rocket heater.
He has links to the plans and several detailed youtube videos on build and use.

OK OK I shamelessly admit I did use some of his ideas . But I am doing some things differently too. I dont know why for instance he didnt cement his J tube together but instead had his bricks just sitting on each other. Im thinking cementing should improve the whole rocket concept

I really liked ZFF's concept, and it was very inspirational in my 1st rocket heater plans. He did some posting here about his original build and testing. The only aspect I questioned was his lack of burn tube insulation (other than it being made of fire brick). It is a nice design that has been working well for him. I see no reason not to use his ideas with our own added touch.
He did use refractory cement (in a tube I believe) to hold everything together, at least for the riser anyway. I tried that in my first build, but since I stacked my bricks incorrectly it didn't hold up.

If you believe you can tell me what to think, I believe I can tell you where to go. Go read this tiny ad!
