I know this is a really old thread, but I was looking to see if there are hare breeds that people raise for meat.
But from looking at the thread it seems like maybe there's some confusion out there about light vs dark meat...
As I understand it (from Hank Shaw, hunter, writer & chef), even if you hunt wild rabbits, whether they are dark or white meat is dependent upon the species -- and not domestic vs wild.
He says that cottontails are all white meat, and hares are all dark meat. That's why I was wondering about raising hares... maybe there aren't domesticated hares...? Where I live we have both jackrabbits (which are hares), and cottontails. But we are more likely to raise rabbits for meat rather than hunting them...
