I have a pond lined with willows, which I plan to eradicate this fall. I'm also planning to build a hugelkultur (timeline TBD). I am looking for advice on whether it makes sense to use them in the hugelkultur. Most of these willows have trunks between 1-3 inches in diameter. I do have plenty of other wood I can use (23 acres of forest), and will definitely be using some larger logs. I'm thinking that since I need to dispose of these willows anyway, it might make sense to use them in the huglekultur. My specific concerns and questions are:
1. Do I need to be worried about the allelopathic nature of willows?
2. If so, is there a way I can use them to minimize any allelopathic impacts (such as burying them lower or higher in the mound)?
3. Do I need to be concerned about them sprouting?
4. If so, will stacking them up somewhere and letting them dry out completely avoid this?
Any advice from would be welcome
