AI data centers.. All the rage, no? Just was thinking about how the public perceives these data centers versus what their actual purpose is. For instance, the I.T. guy at work believes, even though he really didn't want the one that popped up in his town, perhaps it is probably necessary with all of the people using data these days. Unfortunately, that is not what their actual purpose is. It is to obtain data. Once AI collects enough data, the jobs you and I do to make our measly livings will start to disappear. Take graphic artist as one job that is already going the ways of the dodo. You just go to google AI or Microsoft AI and say, create a new ad for whatsit burgers and boom, done. But even more alarming is the information already obtained to replace the jobs of computer programmer, accountant, engineer, lawyer, teacher, writer, doctor, etc etc. Nearly all jobs will be done using AI. That leaves the question, where will people get money? If you listen to Elon Musk, we'll all be drinking mojitos in our backyards, without a care in the world. I will tell you, that is not going to happen. Our governments can scarcely keep up our social security program that we've already funded. You really think they are going to fund every one on earth? No, this is where the government will have their much-wanted "complete control over everyone". My suggestion, to safeguard your future, is to become self sufficient. Quit worrying about obtaing the best house. Worry about obtaining a home that can sustain itself. Become off-gridable. Make a rainwater catchment system. Build a greenhouse off the side of your house. Rocket mass heaters are a really good idea. Earth-covered root cellars for food storage are great. Solar panels will ensure some comfort in dark times. Use your greenhouse for a little income or bartering. Get your 50 year hugelkulture built and grow something. Start a humanure "willow feeder". Learn, not just keeping chickens, learn creating chickens from chickens. People don't realize that the backyard flock they purchased at the hatchery will only lay eggs for a couple years and then they will be nothing more than a pet. Think bigger than that. The best thing to use AI for right now is as a tool in planning your future for the time when AI ensures there is no future, if that makes sense. It does to me. I sometimes feel I am the only one who sees the writing on the wall. I don't want to give anyone stress, but I would like people to pause and reflect on what would happen to their household if the jobs suddenly became scarcer than they were during the great depression. (If you are not familiar with the great depression, I'd suggest using AI for that.) If we become prepared, then we will be in a situation where we can help others.
