Hi y'all,
(Long time lurker first time poster)
I thrifted a beautiful comforter a while back that's stuffed with real feathers. I used it in my bed for a couple weeks or so until I noticed that feathers were getting everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. Allergies that I didn't even know I had were triggered. I don't know if I cared for it incorrectly or if it was just too dang old (I'd guess 1970s by the color, but who knows, it was thrifted). Anyways, as a strong believer in the cycle of commodities I'd like to give it a new stage in life rather than throw it away to the landfill. I imagine the feathers went through some kind of processing and have definitely been washed in chemical detergent so I doubt they're compostable... I'd at least like to save the fabric, but I'm scared of releasing a million allergy-inducing decaying feathers into my house, or the outdoor environment considering whatever chemicals they've been exposed to.
Any ideas?
