Hi, All,
Greetings from Austin, TX (zone 8b). I joined about a month ago and am getting more acclimated to this site. What an amazing resource! Thanks to everyone for their wonderful ideas and posts, especially to Paul and his dedicated goofballs for keeping this site growing. I go my PDC certificate in 2013 and have started implementing my final project design at the home base. We had big storms here a couple of weeks ago that took out a huge Red Oak near our garden, providing a great opportunity to grow our garden. Plus, we have lots of wood chips from that storm to make some prototype hugelkultur beds up on a limestone shelf on our land.
We have 5 acres and use poultry (chickens, guineas, and ducks) as our primary working animals at this time. If you are ever in Austin, I hope to meet you. If you are hear on Easter weekend, come out to the Funky Chicken Coop Tour (AustinCoopTour.org) to get more ideas about chicken coops in an urban area. FCCT's 2014 beneficiary is an active donation of funding a Permablitz at New Farm Institute in November. We are lucky to be working with Kirby Fry, Taelor Monroe, and a dedicated team of Central Texas Permablitz folks to do this project. More details will be coming in the next month on this event.
I look forward to learning more together!
