The farm: Scrumpy Forest Farm (https://scrumpy-forest-farm.com) consists of 39 acres of forest and fields, including 7 acres of pasture, 3.5 acres of orchard, and 0.5-acre garden for annual vegetable production. We follow permaculture, regenerative agriculture, and organic principles and practices. We also host hipcampers between May 1 and Nov 1, and are located on the shoulders of Mt. Hood, with plenty of recreational opportunities nearby.

The community. We have four independent tiny households on the property with about six adults and 2 kids. On the spectrum from a co-living establishment to intentional community, we lean toward the former, but often share meals, collaborate in homestead veggie production, work efforts, and enjoy spending time together. We’re progressive/liberal and LGBTQ friendly, and value the quiet and lifestyle of living and working on a farm+forest sanctuary. We have a community agreement that details our living/working relationships and expectations.

Farming enterprises: Our farm is not only a residential/homestead collaborative, but also a boutique/artisanal farming collaborative. While most of us have part-time off-farm or teleworking jobs, we all also have farm enterprises that integrate into a whole-farm ecosystem. You’d join our community as a resident and bring a complimentary (part-or full-time) enterprise to the table.

Housing: In fall 2026, we will have a tiny house on wheels and the main farmhouse available for rent. Housing rental fees are competitive for the area and work-trade for housing expenses could be available. Work-trade jobs include general farm maintenance, orchard care, hipcamp/hospitality, marketing/social media.
The optimal partners: This is ideal for a single person or couple with side income and the interest/skills and desires to build a small farm enterprise. There are numerous possible complementary enterprises: raising bees; growing a specialty line of vegetables, herbs, or flowers; developing forest products; etc. It is also possible to expand on the current boutique enterprises (orchard/berry production, agritourism stays, and small-scale animal production) and establish a collaborative/profit-share business. You must have excellent references and be willing to have a background check. Looking for someone for a trial period starting fall 2026. Timing is flexible and would be extended if it is working well for all parties.
