Hi! I'm an aspiring homesteader who currently lives in central Ohio and wants to move back to Southeastern Ohio (or to West Virginia if it's in the cards).
In general, I just love being outside. I'm not outside as often as I would like to due to my misophonia and my new neighbor's love of operating machinery between both 8s on the clock. One of which tried to mow with SNOW on the ground! He saw me outside, and instead of reasonably concluding I'm just insane enough to be out in 20f weather, he brought out his mower, flicked it on... and went back inside after five minutes.
So because of that, my dream is to find a place that is a bit rocky and hard to develop, as that will give me some confidence that a huge, noisy change won't happen to an otherwise (hopefully) quiet home. I was down in southeastern Ohio for my degree in Wildlife Habitat Management. I can identify ~70 trees, vines, and shrubs that grow within the Eastern US, and quite a few grasses, birds, fish, and mammal skulls (and other things they leave behind). I can ID some reptiles and bugs as well but there was no formal course for that, those skills came from social osmosis and just my own interest in what I encounter.
As for right now, I'm just working at a plant nursery, hoping to get a spot in one of the highly sought-after seasonal jobs related to my field (it's typical in my field that you'll start out with a seasonal job and hopefully get promoted to permanent) someday soon. I also have a small garden which currently consists of beans, peas, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, and mostly squash. I have table acorn, jack o'lantern pumpkins, Waltham butternut, and way too much zucchini since those seeds got mixed into one of the packets somehow.
