First, I want to tell you about other services out there that do this:

gumroad ($0.30 per transaction + 8.5% OR  $10 per month + $0.30 per transaction + 3.5%)

e-junkie ($5 or more per month + paypal fees ($0.30+2.9%))
payloadz ($19.95 per month + $0.29 per transaction + 2.9%)

I want a place for permaculture related stuff to be sold.  My stuff (videos, ebooks, podcast gobs ...).  Ernie and Erica's stuff (plans, ebooks).  And to help get homesteaders and permies all over the world some residual income streams rolling.  Both the content producers and the networkers/bloggers via 40% affiliate fees.  

The permies.com digital market is currently priced lower than any other digital market site.  We take 1% + paypal fees.   And we are currently exploring adding bitcoin support so that we might be able to eliminate the paypal fees.  

Today, all of the permies.com digital market appears to be working fine, but we are going to say that we are still "in beta".  There are more reports and more features to add.  

So if you sold 100 copies of an ebook for $10, spread out over six months, the fees would be:

gumroad  $115 or   $125
scubbly     $125
selz        $79
e-junkie  $60 + $59(paypal) = $119
payloadz $177.70
permies  $10 + $59(paypal) = $69

I set the price this low with one big caveat:  the products here must be a match for homesteaders and permies.  

Also, in the past we have used our community resources to promote products we like in an effort to collect that sweet 40% (or more!) affiliate fee!  Setting up with the affiliate fee is optional.  And some products we will promote more than others.  

Further still, we provide a collection of tools to promote your products through our community at no charge.  And we have paid advertising too.  

Payment

Those using the digital market to sell their goods must have a Paypal account set up. All monies will be transferred to your Paypal account after the 5th of each month.

As mentioned in podcasts and articles I wrote before getting the idea to create the digital market:  transparancy is very important.   There needs to be a way to validate any possible bug in the system the instant it happens.   And to validate the math.   I've been suckered many times by people that offer "affiliate programs" only to discover "aw shucks, it turns out that there is a bug, so we pay you ..... nothing."    You can see the clicks to make sure that your affiliate code is tracking.   And if somebody writes to you to say "I just bought that through your link" you can verify that you received an email from us BEFORE they told you that.

The digital marketplace is awesome!

I like that the gir bot after purchase e-mail tells you where to find your digital product, in case folks are confused when PayPal returns them to the permies.com thread where they made the purchase.

Though in the case of purchasing the Hugelkultur Micro Doc, finding the video in the post linked to by gir bot is a bit awkward - it requires scrolling through a bunch of screenshots and doesn't go directly to the video. Is that intentional?

I think Paul was going to fix that. If not I'll take a look, and rearrange things a bit so the video is at the top.

I think after paying on PayPal, it did take me back to the premium stuff after purchase, if I recall correctly. IOW, I think it did go to that spot in the long thread post, not the top of that thread post. I wish I'd paid more attention now, sorry.

Yeah, the #premium thing should take you to the premium stuff.  Devaka and I just now exchanged some emails and soon it should take you to the premium stuff.

Everything worked when I purchased the hugul micro doc. Would suggest indicating that upon purchase you will receive an email with more info and a download link. I hadn't realised that I should be looking for an email that I could download the video from. I had actually been wondering if there was a way for me to download the video that was made available to me in the forum that had the purchase link.

Paul- bought the hugelkulture video, everything worked fine with the purchase thru paypal, but when I went to play the video, it buffered for a bit and then the play caught up and froze.  buffered a bit more, I paused and restarted, i played maybe 15 sec more.
tried it a bit more and gave up.  I tried streaming another non permies video and i worked fine.  Wondering if the permies server hosting the videos is being overloaded with testing??

You should be getting both.  

We found a tiny glitch.   Next week sometime, purchases should take you right to purchased stuff immediately after paypal is done.

Was the non-permies video on youtube?  

These videos are set up at vimeo - do you have problems with other vimeo videos?

Paul - yes the non permies vids were YouTube, I'll try Vimeo and let you know

Paul - I had problems with the video being slow earlier, waited 5 or so hours and now it plays fine.  I tried other videos on vimeo earlier and had intermittent similar problems.  Could have just been traffic on vimeo, I have watched other programs hosted on vimeo and had mixed results.  I like their system, you probably made a good choice.

Vimeo has always been spotty like that.   Not nearly as nice as youtube.  I thought they had fixed most of that, but apparently not.

To clarify the choices (Paul, correct me if I'm wrong here), while Vimeo has had a spottier playback than YouTube, Vimeo has better features for renting or purchasing streaming videos than YouTube does. So far. And this is something Paul has researched a LOT. There just aren't very many good choices for video hosts besides these two "bigs."

The test videos have been for streaming, not download, by the way.

If a better video host joins in the fray, I imagine someone at permies will look into it. For now, Vimeo is the best for these kinds of things.

Welcome to Permies! I'm glad you're interested in promoting the goodies in our digital market. The process is pretty simple, really. At the very bottom of each thread in the digital market - below where the 'Post' button is, just above the 'Similar Threads' section - it says 'Your affiliate link to this thread (and the affiliate percentage)', and then displays a link below that (see image below). Copy that link, and use it wherever you want to promote the product. And that's it!

I think it is possible that you only see that link if you have signed up for the affiliate program.

Just bought the new better world backyard book and it doesn’t seem to show up when I click the link from the gir bot confirmation email.
Is there a better link to click that I’m missing. Or is the book not actually out yet?
Also, do I really need to be online to read it? Is it really not a file that I can download to keep on my tablet?

The book is at the printer now.   And we are currently working on the ebook version.  Should be about a month?

Hi Raymond, sorry no one replied yet to your question yet.  When you are looking at that sales page, if you scroll down, do you see two big blue arrows that are pointing downward?  If so, keep scrolling down past the payment area and there should be a spot where it says to "click here to download".
