Hello everyone,
Before adding a camera to a garden nest box, checking that the camera body fits is only part of the job. The bracket and cable need room too, the nest may be too close for a sharp picture, and a live image does not necessarily mean footage is being saved.
I’m Marcin and I run HedgeLens. I’ve made a free browser-based planner to help beginners work through those questions before buying parts or fitting a camera.
It helps you organise four practical checks:
1.
Fit: space for the camera, bracket, connector and cable.
2.
Focus: whether the nearest subject is within the camera’s documented close-focus range.
3.
Connection and power: how you will watch and keep the setup running.
4.
Recording: where clips are saved and how you will retrieve them without visiting the box.
You can start with “I don’t know yet”. Missing details stay as checks to follow up, rather than being treated as a pass. You can print your planning brief, or download a free three-page kit with a worked example and a blank worksheet. No account or email address is required.

Please plan only for an unused box. If birds are using it, showing nesting interest, or you are unsure, do not open or alter it. The planner does not certify compatibility or replace the manufacturer’s instructions.
Which part would you find hardest to work out: fit, focus, connection or recording?
